Could this be off the grid

Next summer I plan to do my first Bike Packing Trip in Big Bear Lake. The main trail I plan to use is the 2N10 trail at the top of Snow Summit. So I watch a guys YouTube vide on this route and he found a spot off the trail to pitch his tent an none campsite. First I wonder if this is a big deal, and of course I know that this is not really off the grid but it will be very remote over a dark night. I don't know just saying this are my plans and I am still working to understand how this will play out for me on my first trip.
