Modifying Tent Poles Empty Modifying Tent Poles

Post by jeffcpr Thu Apr 13, 2023 9:27 am

So I have an idea. The last tent I purchased used or New To me, came with to tent pole. Now I want to go bike packing and to do this you need a tight packed 1 man tent. The poles on this tent are just to long. Don't get me wrong I can make them work but I am thinking of maybe I can modify them. What I would like to do is cut down the length of the disconnected poles, so when storied they will take up less room on my bike. The idea is to take the 24 inch long poles and cut each down to 12 inches.

The poles need to be re-strung anyway so I will also need to cut and add new ferrules as well. The basic repair kits will have most of what I need and from there I just measure and cute to fit. I am not worried about messing the poles up as they are old anyways. worst case I order new poles and try again. There are some good videos on tent pole repair that can help but it seems to be pretty straight forward. I will be sure to do a step by step process here for viewing.
